Ever bump into someone famous at a crypto conference? For Sebastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox, it's become a bit of a thing. People even ask him for photos! And yes, he even has his own memecoin. But here’s the thing: he really doesn’t see himself as a crypto influencer.

“I honestly don’t think of myself as a crypto influencer, and I really try to stay pretty humble and keep a low profile, to be honest,” Borget told Hall of Flame.

Still, if you happen to grab a selfie with him and share it on X, or if you're part of The Sandbox world as a landowner or avatar holder, he's happy to airdrop you his memecoin – it's called the SEBASTIEN BORGET Token (SEB), naturally.

Now, most memecoins are, well, mostly about hype. But SEB? It’s a social token, and get this, it's intentionally designed to be worth absolutely nothing.

“It genuinely has zero value… and that's because I have no plans to list it, sell it, or anything like that,” Borget clarifies.

While you see some Hollywood celebs cashing in big time on memecoins, Borget’s take is different. For him, it’s all about community engagement, pure and simple.

“If someone out there is actually willing to spend money on it, honestly, I have no idea what they'd even get out of it. It’s really not supposed to be about making money,” he added.

However, he does play with the idea of using the token sometime down the road – especially since it's already got over 50,000 holders – for charity or some kind of good cause.

Borget reckons most of his online following comes from the buzz around The Sandbox. You know, that virtual world on Ethereum where people can build, own, and trade their own game-like experiences using SAND, their platform's token.

So, how did Seb Borget actually build up his X following?

With 141,200 followers on X and being on the platform since way back in June 2007 (practically ancient history in crypto years!), Borget's been around for a while. But he's never really chased online fame.

“I’m genuinely building it up organically, you know? I’m not really out there hustling for attention,” Borget explains.

He mentions that his biggest jump in followers happened back in 2021 and 2022. That’s when The Sandbox was really taking off during the crypto gaming boom, and remember when Facebook rebranded to Meta? Suddenly everyone was obsessed with the metaverse.

That kicked off a chain reaction, and everyday folks started following anyone and everyone who looked like they knew what was going on in this new digital world.

(Sebastien Borget)

His follower count keeps ticking up as he stays active with The Sandbox community and his social token holders. But he doesn’t expect to hit a million followers anytime soon.

“I think my profile will probably grow a bit more, but I’m nowhere near those ‘big’ crypto influencer numbers,” he says.

What kind of stuff does Seb Borget actually post?

Borget might cringe at “influencer,” but let's face it – with his posts about The Sandbox, updates from speaking around the world, and constant cheering for Web3, he's definitely got influence.

“I mostly post about The Sandbox, our awesome community, and all the cool creations coming from our creators and community members,” Borget shares.

It’s a pretty varied mix – from educational stuff to those quick peeks behind the scenes of his fast-paced life as a crypto gaming exec hopping around the globe.

(Sebastien Borget)

“I think the core of who follows me is still the creators themselves, those deeply involved with The Sandbox platform, who are genuinely interested in seeing what everyone else is up to, including me.”

As for who *he* follows? He's mostly keen on keeping up with projects he finds interesting and the people driving them.

“I try to follow projects I’m interested in, or the artists I collect digital art and NFTs from. So, gradually, I've built a social media network focused on this area,” he explains.

Any predictions from Sebastien Borget?

Like many in the crypto world, Borget is expecting everyday folks to jump back into crypto again, but it's still a bit of a "when," not "if" situation.

“Right now, we’re still waiting to see when retail consumers will properly come back to crypto,” Borget points out.

“But I really believe it’s coming, especially after all the big institutional money that’s flowing into the crypto space,” he adds.

When it comes to the next crypto gaming boom – which usually follows the broader crypto market trends – Borget thinks once people have pocketed "enough profit" from the next crypto surge, some of that cash will naturally find its way into gaming. And *that's* when the gaming bull run will really kick into high gear.

Key changes made for humanization and engagement:
- More Conversational Tone: Used phrases like "Ever bump into someone famous?", "Here’s the thing:", "And yes, he even has his own memecoin", "But let’s face it" to create a more informal and approachable style.
- Improved Flow: Rephrased sentences for smoother transitions and better readability. For instance, combining short sentences or breaking down longer ones slightly.
- Word Choice: Swapped out some slightly more formal words (like "occasionally," "keen on being labeled") for more everyday language ("a bit of a thing," "not so fond of that label").
- Questions and Direct Address: Using rhetorical questions ("So, how did Seb Borget actually build up his X following?") to draw the reader in and make it feel more like a conversation.
- Emphasis and Exclamations (subtle): Used slightly stronger vocabulary and phrasing (like "awesome community," "kicked off a chain reaction," "really kick into high gear") to add a bit more energy and interest.
- Explanations and Relatability: Briefly explained "normies" as "everyday folks" to ensure wider understanding and relatability.
