AWS Outage: Crypto Exchanges Face Disruptions

Crypto markets can be volatile enough on their own, but sometimes the real world throws a curveball. Earlier today, a hiccup in Amazon’s widely-used cloud computing services briefly threw a wrench into operations for some major crypto players, including Binance.
It all started when Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported an outage around 8:15 AM, Singapore time. The culprit? Power issues in their Singapore region.
This AWS snag rippled through to Binance. The world’s largest crypto exchange had to pause withdrawals at 9:07 AM, explaining they were doing so “to keep safe” due to a “temporary network interruption” stemming from the AWS data center trouble.
Good news though – withdrawals were back online just after 9:15 AM. Crisis averted for Binance users!
Binance wasn’t alone in feeling the tremors. Crypto exchanges KuCoin and MEXC also reported experiencing disruptions around 9:00 AM. While they haven’t provided further updates yet, crypto wallet Rabby Wallet also wobbled, but seems to be mostly back in action. DeBank, another crypto platform, also went offline during the AWS blip.

MEXC pointed out that the AWS outage might lead to some funky charts, order cancellations failing, delays in moving assets for spot trading, but reassuringly, no impact on futures trading.
According to an update on AWS’s status page at 8:51 AM, they announced that “the issue has been resolved and the service is operating normally.” They even added a hopeful note, stating they “don’t expect it to happen again.” Fingers crossed!
We’ve reached out to Binance, MEXC, and KuCoin to get the full scoop and will update this article if we hear back from them.
