Milady started out as just an NFT community, but it’s grown into something way bigger. It’s now one of the most culturally impactful groups you’ll find in the world of Ethereum and crypto in general.

Over the years, some pretty well-known names have either joined in or just hung out with the community, like Elon Musk and even Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum.

Milady is famous for its sense of humor, which is definitely on the edgy side, plus layers of irony and this kind of intense, almost cult-like vibe. People have been trying to figure out what’s actually going on inside their self-made world for ages. But if you look at the bigger picture, the Milady community is huge, encompassing everything from different NFT collections and meme coins to actual global parties, a Minecraft server, and these really in-depth philosophical writings.

It’s gotten so big and confusing that even people like alt-right commentator Nicholas Fuentes have tried to wade in, only to get totally lost in all the memes and inside jokes.

But don’t worry, we’ve been watching this for a while now and kind of get it. So, here’s the lowdown on what you really need to know.

What is Milady?

So, Milady (also known as Milady Maker) is basically an NFT collection that launched back in August 2021, created by Remilia Corporation. The profile pictures are these super cute Chibi anime-style characters with these big, shiny eyes. Each one even has its own “drip” score and grade. People think the Milady character took inspiration from Hororo, from the anime “Bottle Fairy.”

Even though Milady is at its core an NFT project for profile pics, it actually goes against a lot of what you’d expect from that world. For instance, you don’t even have to buy a Milady NFT to be part of it. You can literally just change your profile picture, say on X (you know, Twitter from before), to a Milady image. This started the whole meme that just switching your profile pic to a Milady will totally change your life.

Remilia, as a bigger organization, also has a quarterly magazine, plus other NFT spin-offs like Remilio Babies, a music record label, and more stuff. While it’s not all officially “Milady,” a lot of the Remilia stuff overlaps with the Milady NFT community. They share members and a similar kind of culture.

And get this, there’s even a Milady Minecraft game server called Miladycraft. It’s like a place for community members to hang out, but it’s also seen as a kind of art piece about gaming and society today.

In December 2024, the Milady Cult Coin (CULT) actually launched on Ethereum as the official token for the whole project. This was after tons of other similar tokens popped up that weren’t officially tied to Milady.

This coin launch came six months after a pre-sale that project leaders and community members straight-up trolled as a scam. They did this by just spamming “Don’t worry about it” to anyone asking what was happening, and then just flooding everything with deep-fried AI memes.

But really, when you boil it down, Milady is more than just an NFT or a community – it’s a mindset, a whole way of looking at life. A lot of this Milady vibe comes from the writings of Charlotte Fang, who founded Remilia Corporation.

Who is Charlotte Fang?

Charlotte Fang is the person behind Remilia Corporation, using a pseudonym. They’re the founder and CEO, and basically the leader of the whole Milady Cult thing. Fang usually goes by he/him pronouns, but told Decrypt that she/her is also okay, depending on the “vibe.”

Fang has shared a lot of their thoughts online through blog posts on Mirror.xyz, giving people a peek into their philosophical and sociological views, which can be pretty controversial.

One of the main ideas for Fang and the Milady community is “network spirituality.” Basically, it’s about the cultural connections that are built through internet memes and references, and it encourages people to really embrace their online identity.

In another blog post called “The Cancelled Will Inherit the Earth,” Fang talks about cancel culture. They argue that at some point, everyone with a significant online presence is going to get “canceled” in some way, and that eventually, the canceled people will become the dominant force in culture.

Because of this, Fang even suggests “pre-canceling” yourself, like by intentionally saying offensive things – which they see as “punk.” This might explain some of the controversial stuff Fang and Milady members have said online. This approach has made Fang a pretty divisive figure in crypto, which was made even bigger by a controversy in 2022.

The Miya controversy

Back in 2022, 0xngmi, who co-founded DeFi Llama, outed Fang as the person behind the pseudonym Miya, who had posted hardcore alt-right extremist stuff. 0xngmi claimed that under the Miya name, Fang was posting racist and homophobic content, and even having inappropriate online relationships with minors who had eating disorders.

At first, Fang tried to deny being Miya, but eventually gave in and admitted it was them. In an X post, they said that their actual views are totally against hate and that they hate abusers and groomers.

Fang explained in a blog post that they ran the Miya account with others from 2019 to 2020. It was meant to be a “performative identity,” like an AI writing from a “post-human” future, using a “schizotheory” style. Fang and the other Miya contributors apparently had a “thing” for “engaging in problematic content” to explore extreme ideas, almost like satire, to see where they’d logically lead.

Now, Miya is just another layer to the whole Milady story. Instead of ignoring it, community members have kind of embraced the controversy and the impact it had. In a weird way, the backlash and “cancellation” of Fang and Milady just made followers dig deeper into the Milady philosophy.

“Woke censorship had its moment and made for really bad culture in the late 2010s, but being irreverent and rebellious will always be cooler than trying to normalize pushback,” Fang wrote almost a year later. “Think about it: when people hear Miya was a LITERAL NAZI ANOREXIA CULT LEADER, their first thought is probably: Cool.”

Even with all the controversy and the NFT market dropping, Milady is still a big deal in crypto culture. In 2023, Elon Musk, the Tesla guy, posted a Milady meme, and the price went crazy. Then in 2025, Vitalik Buterin, the Ethereum founder, used a Milady profile picture, which a lot of people thought was a signal that things were changing as he went into “wartime mode.”

Milady is definitely confusing, controversial, and totally bizarre—but you can’t really ignore it.
